Cholera is serious in Lusaka – UTH Senior Doctor

University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Medical Doctor Mulindi Mwanahamuntu has described the cholera outbreak in the capital as serious.

Dr Mwanahamuntu who is a senior Consultant at Zambia’s biggest hospital, UTH has however given some tips on how to combant the deadily water borne disease that is ravaging Lusaka.

He says:

Cholera is here and serious in Lusaka. Cholera is a sociopolitical disease. As at now, Zambians should regard Lusaka as the epi center of this water bone disease. Before politicians deal with it, here is what you ought to do:

1. Wash your hands after using a loo

2. Wash your hands with running water before you eat. 3. Avoid food, particularly ready made food and bought off the streets of Lusaka.

4. Do not shake hands unless you are conscious that you will wash those hands

5. Please, recognise the early signs of cholera such as tummy ache, diarrhea and vomiting.

6. Ensure that such bodily affluent is discharged correctly to safeguard others.

7 Not least of all, know that one teaspoon of salt, one of sugar in preboilled 1 litre of water can save you or a family member before you deliver yourself to medical authorities.
