Bus fares hiked

The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has approved the request by the bus operators, to adjust bus fares, pursuant to Section 108 (11) of the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2022.
The approved upward variation in bus fares are as follows: S/n Route Approved Bus Fare Reduction (ZMW)/

Average % Reduction

1. Intercity – Long Distance -5.0%

2. Copperbelt Local and other towns – K1.00

3. Lusaka Local and other towns – K1.00

4. Inter-Mine/ Peri-Urban Copperbelt – K1.00

5. Lusaka Peri-Urban – K2.00

The changes in bus fares were effective 9 th February, 2023.

Further, bus operators are guided to revise and display the bus fare charts in all the buses accordingly.

The adjustment in bus fares comes in the wake of the increase in the fuel pump prices by K2.73 per litre for petrol and K2.81 per litre for diesel with effect from 1st February, 2023.
