Zimbabwe’s uneven democratic space

The clampdown of the democratic space by the government and its proxies is increasing. The proxies blocked a peaceful “Thank You Rally” by opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa, arrested 78 female protesters in Victoria Falls, Obert Mpofu threatening a crackdown on any street protest in the capital, Central Intelligence Organisation and Military Intelligence circulating a false letter of Douglas Mwonzora’s (MDC Alliance Secretary-General) resignation and the list is endless. Mnangagwa has failedto improve the political environment and flatten the uneven democratic space. The international community should condemn Zimbabwe for human rights abuses.
