zescoTen-man Zesco United have progressed to the second round of the 2016 CAF Champions League despite losing 2-0 away to Horoya AC in the first round second-leg tie played in Conakry.

The Zambian champions won the tie 4 – 3 on aggregate, following their emphatic 4-1 first-leg win in Ndola last week.

Horoya scored their goals via penalties converted in the first half by Daouda Camara.

Zesco’s woes were compounded in the 44th minute when first-leg hero Cletus Chama was sent off.

But George Lwandamina’s side hang on to ensure passage to the next round where they will face Cotonsport of Cameroon away in the first leg next month.

Cotonsport advanced after a 1-0 home win over Stade Malien of Mali on Sunday to book their passage on away goals rule following a 2-1 away loss on March 13.

The winner of the last 16 tie will qualify for the Champions League group stage.

The loser will be relegated to the Confederation Cup for another chance at advancing to the league phase of the second tier competition.
