Zambia Electricity Supply Company (ZESCO) management has stripped workers of free electrify in its strides to save on costs, managing director Victor Mapani has disclosed.
Mapani also disclosed that the status for personal to holder vehicles has also been abolished.
In an interview, Mapani said in the last one year several measures have been taken to curb costs at the power utility.
“The following tasks have been successfully managed in the last one year and are showing progress in Zesco’s strides to curb costs: We have abolished staff tariffs, meaning no more free electricity units to employees irrespective of grade or position,” he said. “Abolished personal to holder motor vehicles for all grades. We have also parked all company motor vehicles for non-operational departments for all grades.”
Mapani also revealed that Zesco management has done away with renting buildings in Lusaka for its operations.
He said all units that were operating in rented buildings in Lusaka have been housed in Malaiti House, formerly Mukuba Pension House.
“These (measures) have saved costs,” said Mapani.
