Zesco outclass Nkana in CAF opener

ZESCO United beat Zambian counterparts Nkana 2-0 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola in their 2019 CAF Confederations Cup group stage opener on Sunday.

John Ching’andu and Lazarous Kambole found the back of the net for Team Ya Ziko who duly move top of Group C, level on points with Al-Hilal Omdurman who edged past Asante Kotoko at the same time.

ZESCO hit the front after 28 minutes through Ching’andu. Anthony Akumu teed up his fellow midfielder who fired past Kelvin Malunga in the Red Devils’ goal as the home fans burst into delirium.

Kambole doubled the hosts lead on the cusp of halftime with a superb strike as ZESCO headed for the tunnel at the break in complete control.

The Zambian rivals continued to slug it out in the second half as Nkana looked for a way back into the tie, but it was not to be for the visitors as ZESCO claimed all three points and bragging rights.

Next up for ZESCO in the CAF CC is a trip to Ghana to take on Asante Kotoko. Nkana’s next match is at home to Al-Hilal in 10 days time.
