Zanaco clients call for stepping up of security measures

Some Zanaco clients who were affected after a group of fraudsters hacked the Zanaco mobile money platform and defrauded thousands of customers of their hard earned money are calling on the bank to step up its security measures, according to Phoenix News.

The data breach which happened between Friday and Sunday over the weekend saw thousands of Zanaco customers lose their cash in their Xapit accounts.

Some Zanaco clients talked to by phoenix news are disappointed with the hacking of the system of a big bank as Zanaco.

Some who were affected and lost their money in the process say they have been inconvenienced and are demanding that they be compensated their money.

But in a statement issued to Phoenix News, Zanaco Management said there has been no security breach on its systems.

The bank says it has invested and continues to invest heavily in the controls and systems that host customer Personally Identifiable Information as security for customers is of the utmost importance and is at the Centre of the bank’s core strategy.

The Bank management has regretted that some of its customers have yielded to incessant pursuits of cyber criminals and shared their personal banking credentials.

Zanaco says following industry wide cyber fraud, it has embarked on a fraud awareness campaign in an effort to sensitize its customers and the public on how to protect their information and themselves against fraud.

The bank has since advised its customers that details such as pin and/or passwords should never be shared online or with anyone else and if they suspect an attempt for fraud, they must quickly change their pin and report any suspicious activity.
