…HCGAZ To Implement The Programme.

Zambia will now have specific wards for the aged just like it has for the Children.

The Health Care Givers Association of Zambia (HCGAZ) has been mandated by the Zambian government to implement the introduction of Geriatrics wards in the country.

The resolution was made at a working group meeting which comprises the Ministry of Health at a meeting held on 10th May, 2024 in Lusaka.

HCGAZ National Coordinator Stanley Mubambe has confirmed the development in a statement seen by Zambian Eye.

Mubambe says the Association has been mandated by the government of Zambia through the Ministry of Health to take care of the old aged.

He explains that the Government will provide infrastructure for a start while the Association working with Partners will provide human resource.

Mubambe says the Association will employ Health Care Assistants from it’s member training institutions to work in the wards under the supervion of the staff already employed by Government in public hospitals.

The in-service staff to manage the wards will undergo special training designed by the Association to equip them on how best to handle the aged.

Mubambe whose Association is also mandated to train Health Care Givers in Zambia has called on members of the public to only enroll with Institutions that are registered by HCGAZ. He has called on those who graduated from member institutions to ensure they register with the Association.

This has been agreed by the working group and the Ministry of Health, Mubambe says.

He explains that the association will start delivering the health care Geriatrics services in wards, homes and centres. This special care for the aged will commence once all moderities are in place.

The Association will take care of the Geriatrics wards in all Public Hospitals in Zambia and supervising the Private Hospitals to seeing to it that they care for old aged.

Mubambe says the exercise will start from Lusaka and Central provinces before being rolled to all parts of the country.

Social and Health Care Assistant/Nursing Assistant is a new program in Zambia and has demand overseas.
