Zambia starts preps for golden jubilee

The country will this year start celebrations to mark the country’s 50 years of independence in 2014.

Acting Government Chief Spokesperson Fackson Shamenda said in a statement on Friday August 2, 2013 that the 50 years of independence is a milestone in the country’s history.

The theme will be Commemorating God’s Favour of Zambia’s 50 Years of Independence for Continued Peace, Unity, Democracy, Patriotism and Prosperity.

“This theme aptly speaks to our recognition and eternal gratitude to God, our Creator, for preserving Zambia as an oasis of peace in a world often beset by civil strife and other calamities, both man-made and natural,” Shamenda said.

He said the theme further encourages the nation to continue to pursue the ideals of democracy and to strive for prosperity.

He appealed to all Zambians and the rest of the world, regardless of colour, race, creed or political persuasion to join hands and celebrate with Zambia as it marks the Golden Jubilee of its attainment of independence next year.

“Let’s celebrate through our music and dance, murals and other works of art, billboards, coffee mugs, car stickers and key holders, 2014 calendars and diaries, branding of company and public transport as well as our business and work premises, etc. Let’s paint the world in Zambian colours, wherever we may be,” Shamenda said.
