Zambia will continue to experience load shedding of over 10 hours a day in the view of depleting power generation caused by low water levels in electricity generation bodies among other things.

Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) Director General Fidelis Mubiana has disclosed that the relatively good rainfall experienced in the last rainy season can not guarantee adequate supply to meet demand throughut the year.

Mubiana has attributed the shortage to the Kariba North bank power station which is currently generating about 275 mw against its installed capacity of 1080 mw.

He said power generation is only expected to increase once the Kaguee Gorge lower power station is commissioned, expected to have been done by second quarter of 2020.

He disclosed this during a media briefing in Siavonga on the power situation in the country.

Meanwhile, apart from the depleting water levels, the current electricity generation infrastructure is too old and need facelifting.
