Zambia needs a leader with no corruption allegations around their necks, implies ZWW president

The Zambia We Want (ZWW) President Kapembwa Simbao has implied that the country needs a leader without corruption allegations hanging around their necks.

He says over the years he has worked in senior government positions but came with a clean sheet, thus without his name tainted by corruption allegations.

Simbao adds that once in power, his administration will first and foremost do what people want before going an extra mile.

Speaking during a televised programme on Millennium Tv, Simbao said the prime mandate of a government is to do the will of the people.

He said currently they are looking at what the government should be doing that it is not doing and look at ways to correct those mistakes.

He added that the new dawn brought hope which has not been realized, because the government backtracked in doing what it promised while still in opposition.

He singled out the high cost of living ticket that he said brought the current government in power has not been addressed.

He said main causes high cost of living include high fuel prices, high unemployment rate adding that  government will work hard to address this.

Simbao said the 3 main industries that drive Zambia are mining, agriculture and tourism, adding that these should be prioritized.

He bemoaned low capacity utilization, lack of value addition to minerals before being exported. “We are sending out copper ore containing more minerals. We should process copper to final product.

“Tourism is dead despite Zambia housing wonders of the world. Lodges run by outsiders who are funded by home countries.

“It is almost impossible to get Bank loans without connections,” he said.

Simbao also pointed out that agriculture is not getting enough support, saying this sector should be heavily subsidized.

On debt management, he said: “The government should stop borrowing, and make sure that Zambians own big businesses. “Once money is kept in the country it means government will have access to it for use to improve standards of living.

Where Zambin citizens borrow capital from outside, he said: “Govt should guarantee foreign lenders that once a Zambian fails to pay back borrowed money, the govt should pay.”

Speaking about his election to lead the party said Simbao said he give credit to the debate which gave him chance to sell himself.
