Zambia joins the rest of the world commemorate World Health Workers Week

Zambia is joining the rest of the world commemorating the World Health Worker Week, this year the week ic being celebrated under the them ‘Leaders on the Front Line’ the theme comes at a time the world is fighting the deadly coronavirus.

As for the country, the theme bond well with the efforts being made by the government and other institutions in the fight against the pandemic.

The week was almost overshadowed, as nations are busy focusing on fighting the pandemic. World Health Worker Week was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly and it falls between April 5-11, every year.

The Frontline Health Workers Coalition and its members to honor health workers during World Health Worker Week: April 5-11, 2020.

“The Eighth Annual World Health Worker Week is yet another opportunity to mobilize communities, partners, and policymakers to increase support of health workers worldwide,” says the coalition.

This theme highlights the need to provide greater leadership opportunities for frontline health workers—particularly women health workers, who make up more than 70% of the global health workforce.

As stated by the World Health Organisation, this theme also emphasizes how health workers often put themselves on the line, often at great personal risk to themselves and their families, to save and improve lives.

The coalitin is inviting all health workforce stakeholders to join the efforts by raising public awareness and engaging on health workforce issues, and recognize the life saving contribution of the health workforce.
