Zambia invites EU to observe 2026 General elections

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mulambo Haimbe extended an invitation to the European Union to observe Zambia’s upcoming General Elections in 2026.

He made the request during a bilateral meeting with the President of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, David McAllister, on the sidelines of the African Union-European Union Ministerial meeting in Brussels, Belgium.

The discussion focused on strengthening Zambia-EU relations, particularly in democratic governance, electoral transparency, and institutional cooperation.

Haimbe expressed Zambia’s gratitude for the EU’s role in observing the 2021 General Elections and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding democratic values.

McAllister praised Zambia’s democratic progress and peaceful political environment, reaffirming the EU’s readiness to continue supporting the country in promoting democratic principles and good governance.
