Zambia declares 3 days of national mourning for Denis Liwewe

President Michael Sata has declared three days of national mourning for Veteran Sports Commentator Denis Liwewe who died this week, April 22, 2014 at the age of 78.

According to a statement issued Wednesday evening by Cabinet, the mourning begins today and will end on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 6pm CAT.

During the three days of national mourning all programmes of entertainment nature have been suspended and Radio stations and Television will play solemnly music.

But his son Ponga on Wednesday told ZNBC Sports that his father will be put to rest this Friday at the Leopards Hill Memorial Park in Lusaka.

Ponga says church service will be held at the Anglican Cathedral in Lusaka at 09:00 hours.

He also said a memorial church service will be held in South Africa on Wednesday night for Liwewe’s friends based in South Africa.

The Church service will be held at 19 hours at 5 Lamone complex, Nature Street , Northriding.

And Sports Administrator Simata Simata says Liwewe raised the bar of football commentary in the country.

Simata told ZNBC Morning Live programme on Wednesday that there is a lot that young and upcoming football commentators can learn from Liwewe.
