Youth organisations to de-campaign PF

A consortium of youth organizations and student unions have passed a vote of no confidence in the Patriotic Front (PF) government and have vowed to de-campaign the ruling party ahead of the August 11 general elections.

This follows government’s decision to close the University of Zambia (UNZA) and Copperbelt University indefinitely due to the problems that have rocked the two highest learning institutions in recent times.

When announcing the closures at a media briefing in Lusaka yesterday, higher education minister Micheal Kaingu blamed the student unrest at the two public universities on opposition politicians.

But in a statement issued to Zambian Eye by the Zambian Youth Movement spokesperson Niza Phiri has laid the blame for the problems at the two institutions squarely on the shoulders of government and has vowed to punish them during this year’s elections.

“Without fear or favour, we promise to vigorously and relentlessly campaign Against the current poisonous Patriotic Front government, in our individual capacities, as well as collectively because it has brought nothing but misery to the average Zambian man,” Phiri charged.

“They have managed to take this country a century backwards, a free falling currency, thousands of job losses, unacceptable commodity price hikes, and a lazy fare attitude towards the education sector.

“We thereby unanimously and collectively, pass a vote of no confidence in the patriotic front government and do hence forth launch the ‘PF must go’ campaign where we, the Zambian youth will not spare any Zambian corner to rid ourselves of what has become the cancer that has crippled Zambia. Come 11th August, students and ordinary youth will give the pf a vote of thanks for the misery they have consistently served the Zambian people.”
