You are naive, Caller tells ECZ’s Akufuna

A Radio caller today told Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Public Relations Manager Cris Akufuna that he was being naive.

This was during a famous talk show programme on Radio Phoenix called Let the People Talk that hosted Akufuna.

Contributing to the programme, a caller who identified himself as Norman came out strong telling the ECZ PR Boss that he was being naive.

This was after Akufuna said the commission could not act on media reports that foreigners were being registered as voters in Eastern province.

Akufuna said the ECZ doesn’t act on media reports adding that the report had no facts.

But Norman charged that there was no way ECZ could ignore such a serious allegations that could undermine the electoral process.

He said ECZ should have come out to investigate the matter and table it with relevant wings of government such as Department of Registration.

At this moment the host of the programme Haive Hagunta asked Norman to retract his use of the word naive. But Norman stood his ground and asked Hagunta if he understands the meaning of the word. Then Hagunta said he did but feared that other people may not understand. Norman said he was using English and that he meant what he said.

In response, Akufuna said ECZ had no powers to summon the department of registration. He explained that the citizens will have an opportunity to bring out the names in the registers that they accuse of being foreigners during verification period.

Akufuna said it was not the role of ECZ at this moment to question the nationality of people with NRCs coming to register as voters.

  1. He is not only being naive but out rightly foolish. Can ECZ claim that they run clean elections when their register is full of foreigners? Who should ensure that only eligible voters are registered? What stupidity is this? In other words, Akufuna is telling us that ECZ is incompetent hence allowing foreigners to register. Even in the last election there were so many flaws and ECZ acknowledged that without shame. Figures were differing and all that ECZ could do was to give silly explanations. Don’t take peace for granted. You will cry and run one day.

  2. The story is cowdung. IS THIS WHAT JOURNALISM SCHOOLS ARE TEACHING Reporters nowadays??. The reporter whose grammar is very poor is struggling to write and to even make a story out of an everyday event. A caller told Akufuna that he is being naive. So what? Is that really a story? People tell each other you are dumb you are naive you are this and that everyday.

  4. John Duma uli mwana a mubwa. Your tribe only knows how to steal and beg. You will never find a Tonga begging on the street. They are all busy herding and milking cows for food. No shameless ” ndefwayobwafwilisho” nonsense mumisebo. Go herd and milk cows, it is more respectable and honourable.

  6. Winter Kabimba at one of his meetings in Eastern Province when he was then the Secretary General of PF told the gathering that he had hired Kenyans who came to Zambia and helped the PF secure the much needed vote by participating in the voting process. ECZ read the story but could not act because it came from the media. This is the ECZ which claims credibility. .Since I registered as a voter Akufuna/Priscilla Isaac have featured prominently on ECZ portfolios are there no other clever zambians who can handle the tasks at ECZ.
