Long time Monze Central Member of Parliament Jack Mwiimbu has spoken out strongly over calls for him to step aside having been on the seat since 2001. Mwiimbu spoke out saying he is a freedom fighter who helped the UPND form government.
Mwiimbu said he has been fighting for the party and the president wondering why those calling for him step aside have been only to resurface now when the UPND is in government. He asked his crowd as to whether UPND would have formed government without him saying his role was critical.
The Veteran Lawmaker who is the Lawyer for the party asked those asking him to step aside where they were when Hakainde Hichilema was brutally arrested charged with a trumped up charge of treason in 2017. He reminded people to reflect on all these incidences and appreciate the role he has played in UPND.
Those saying he has done nothing in Monze, he asked them who had worked on the roads, brought the Zambia National Service (ZNS) Milling and construction of Police Houses. Mwiimbu promised that by this year a General hospital will be built for the first time in Monze. He also announced that a multi-economical zone will be opened in Monze.
There are growing calls that some UPND MPs who have served more than two terms step aside. These calls were also anchored by President Hakainde Hichilema during the funeral of late former Mapatizya member of Parliament Ackson Sejani. President Hichilema narrated how Sejani had exhibited rare leadership qualities by offering to step aside after being elected thrice as MP. He called on other UPND MPs to emulate him and pave way for others.
Mwiimbu serves as Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security. He is among the long serving MPs with his Mazambuka counterpart Gary Nkombo, C. Mweetwa of Choma Central among others.
In 2021, Mwiimbu faced a serious primary challenge in adoption when he was challenged by Mutinta Mazoka, Daughter to UPND Founder Anderson Mazoka.
