Convention will not push us to enact new constitution – Justice Minister, Kabimba

Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba has said the Patriotic Front government will not be pushed with time frame to enact the new constitution.

Reacting to the time 12 months time frame by the just ended Constitution Convention, Kabimba who is also the ruling party’s Secretary General said government will follow its own time to enact the new constitution.

Kabimba told Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation on Friday, April 19, 2013 that the PF government regretted that the Constitution Convention went beyond its limit by putting a time frame under which the new constitution must be put in place.

After deliberating the draft constitution the convention resolved that the constitution must be enacted via a National Referendum that should be held within 12 months.

During the campaigns, Sata and his PF promised Zambians that once elected into government they will produce a new constitution within 90 days. The PF marks 24 months or two years in office this September.

  8. They said the new constitution would be ready in 3 months. 18 months down the line, Kabimba says govt will not follow what the majority of Zambians want. When we complain about the nonsensical intentions coming from the PF, their ‘kaponyas-turned-party officials’ insult us. Where is this PF govt heading the country to?
