Governance Elections Advocacy and Research Services (GEARS) Initiative Zambia has vowed to defend the Constitution by picketing and petitioning Parliament not to adopt the National Dialogue Forum (NDF) proposals.

GEARS says it has started the campaign dubbed Operation Save the Constitution which will run during the current session of the National Assembly sitting.

The Civil Society Organization said in a statement released on June 19 that it has started the campaign to sensitise citizens on the out come of the NDF and its resolutions.

“We say NO to Coalition govt, NO to deputy Ministers and NO to removal of workers on payroll before paying their benefits,” GEARS said in a statement.

“We are rejecting that election of mayors/Chairpersons by councillors but residents and NO to two years resignation for civil servants to participate in active partisan politics.”

The organisation has since urged Zambians to support the campaign talk to their MP to say no to the amendment of the Constitution.
