We shall not allow anyone to put a gun on our head – New Justice Minister Lungu

Newly appointed Justice Minister and Patriotic Front General Secretary Edgar Lungu says government will not allow anyone to pressure it to deliver a new constitution, reports Zambian Eye Correspondent.

Lungu who is also Defence Minister said the PF government was committed to deliver a new constitution but warned those threatening to pressure government that it will not work.

“We are committed to give the people a new constitution but we shall not allow anyone to put a gun on our head,” Lungu said in reaction to threats by the Grand Coalition who on Saturday resolved to stage countrywide protests to pressure the government to release the draft copy of the new constitution.

Lungu said those planning to demonstrate are free to do so but should ensure that whatever they do is within the provision of the law. He retaliated his boss’ Michael Sata’s remark that the country has a functioning constitution which had no flaws. He said he office today, Monday would meet  Attonery General and Secretary to the Cabinet

Lungu was appointed to replace Wynter Kabimba who was fired last week by President Michael Sata.
