We refuse to respond to HH, we need to mourn first – PF

The ruling Patriotic Front  (PF ) says it is affected with the death of eight people who died during a food stamped in Lusaka on Monday because of the “massive ” support it enjoys in the capital.

In a statement to Zambian Eye on Tuesday, PF Secretary General Davies Mwila says the party will however not respond to UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema whom he says is politicising the tragedy.

Below is the statement:

The Patriotic Front under the leadership of His Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu respects and values human life because human beings are created in the image and likeness of God the Creator as revealed in first book of the Bible, Genesis chapter 1 verse 26.

Driven by this faith and conviction that human life is sacred and that every life carries the same dignity, we wish to register our profound sadness and regret at the death of 8 members of our national family in the stampede that happened yesterday, Monday 6th March 2017 at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.

As a party with God fearing leaders we have resisted the temptation of rushing into issuing condemnations before relevant authorities furnish the public with credible information of what really happened. Instead we have decided to focus on the suffering of families that have lost their loved ones as well as on the injured who are being hospitalised.

However, we support demands for a thorough investigation into this matter to establish what happened and why our people died in the avoidable manner they did.

We commend the government for offering assistance to the injured and the bereaved families through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit, DMMU under the office of the Vice President.

We wish to stress the fact that at times like this one when members of our national family lose their loved ones in the tragic manner such as yesterday’s stampede what is expected of normal human beings is empathy directed at lightening the sorrow and burden that such loss comes with.

So our hearts go out to those in pain caused by injuries suffered in the stampede and those mourning their loved ones.

As a matter of fact, our party is directly affected by this tragedy given the huge support we enjoy in Lusaka.

Finally, we are aware of the statement made by Mr Hakainde Hichilema the leader of the opposition United Party for National Development, UPND in which he has chosen to politicise this misfortune and fallaciously heap blame on the PF government.

We refuse to stop mourning and start responding to Mr Hichilema. The Bible says there is time for everything under the sun and for us, this time is for mourning. Time to respond to Mr Hichilema will come after we give the dead dignified funerals and offer the injured the attention they need.

We refuse to fall into the trap of giving Mr Hichilema the attention he is trying to seek as usual.

May the God who created us in his image and likeness console the families of the deceased, heal the injured and grant the departed eternal rest.

May God strengthen us and fill our hearts with his divine compassion.

I thank you.

  1. This is what you were supporse to do even on Chiluba Regina’s funeral than to go and watch the football match and today you are telling us that you need to mourn just because HH has talked about the deaths which has happened because of hunger in Zambia

  2. When there is hunger in a home, the parents take the blame. That’s how it is. Its not political. As Human beings we should value life even more when its functional and not when people die that’s when mwashita amakoko pa fililo. Our country just registered a bumper harvest in the previous season and just after the harvest people are fighting for food. Question is – WHAT IS A BUMPER HARVEST?. I would have thought is was a period when you have more food than you can consume.

  3. Foolish party of imbeciles the Pf IS. HH was simply stating the sad situation in our country and wasnt in any way soliciting response from you. He doesnt have to because in your usual idiotic way of looking at things you have ambly shown your deep rooted lack of visionary minds that is lacking in PF. You are all a bunch of failures incapable of running eka temba let alone a country. People dying in an effort to scramble for food is a caterstrophy of immense proportion whatever you look at it. Dont respond to what HH said…for God’s sake respond to the crisis. Last time we saw people in a stempede for food was towards the end of KK’s brutal dictatorship when masses went on rampage looting state shops. Histort is repeating itself. How can a serious reasonable government focus on what the opposition leader said and not the crisis. What led people to que for staple food? Is there food crisis or maybe food is priced too high for ordinary citizen to afford?

  4. Leaders in PF have an average IQ of 70, which in the western world is regarded as being retarded, according to the recent study by AmRen.com.

  6. Fellow Zambians, we have a tragedy and it is best that we first project our remorse in dealing with this issue, but most importantly that we contain our emotions as we learn from a people management perspective on what actually failed!
When ever the masses are gathered,PRIOR and elaborate contingency plans for safety, conveniences(toilets)and obviously emergency must be discussed.
If 35,000 people were called to be in one place for prayer, why were they not asked to leave their contact details to allow smaller groupings in the communities to distribute the food packs?
This is hardly a matter of political mileage either on the part of HH, assuming the comment was correctly attributed to him or the PF SG wanting to take a political twist out of the calamity!

  7. Let us show leadership, accept responsibility and offer some hope that a similar occurrence will be avoided or mitigated in future.
This confrontational approach in the face of criticism is not helping the PF as a party in government.
We are all aware that President Lungu has publicly denounced violent conduct from the youth in his party and clearly distances himself from acts of violence in the name of PF.
Believing that this directive also covers the entire party and indeed the whole nation, why is the President keeping Mr Davies Mwila in such a sensitive portfolio of the party?
Please give him a toy to play with, not PF Secretary General!
Davies Mwila is a thug, that is what he has shown the nation.
PF youth have nick named him “Boko Haram” and he appears quite contented with it

      • He is spoiling for a fight by me, but people expect solutions to the problems of hunger. How will they be cushioned? I imagine that these are some of the direct effects of the removal of fuel subsidy.
What government intervention is being considered, how long the nation must tighten belts etc. etc.

    • The thug Mwila yapping from a point of ignorance and arrogance as usual. Does he understand that being in government they are responsible for the hunger in the country. PF foolishness as usual they want to shift the blame to the Church of Christ. The church was trying to do good. PF are Miserable fellows.

  8. European countries(UK,Spain etc) have their towns dotted with food banks where the vulnerable open accounts or register for rations. Let of send pipipo for study tour on how it works. It is indeed an insult of astronomical perimeters to have loyal citizens of Zambia die over ufa, ubunga, busu, etc. Shame on this nation.

The level of poverty is very high and the govt is doing nothing about it. They are spending millions globe trotting but bringing nothing of benefit to Zambia This illegitimate, violent, lawless and visionless Lungu is a disaster.

  12. The loss of life is a product of a poorly performing caused by the mismanagement of the PF Govt over the years.So.mourning is self inflicted and is merely shedding crocodile tears. The illegitimate and visionless Lungu govt has no clue in managing a modern functioning economy. Its Chipantepante and No Planning.
