We have not appointed Sean Tembo as our Vice President – UPND

The UPND have poured cold water on media reports that they have appointed Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) leader as the party’s new Vice President for Politics.

Yesterday, an online publication claimed Tembo had been brought into the party to replace Canisius Banda who resigned from the party in 2016 after he was suspended for misconduct.

But UPND secretary general Steven Katuka dismissed the reports as false and malicious, adding that the party’s National Management Committee had never sat to deliberate on such a matter.

“We wish to dispel the information circulating on social media suggesting that we have appointed PeP President Mr Sean Tembo as Vice President replacing Dr Canicius Banda,” said Katuka today.

“The information is false and malicious as the Vice President for Politics is Dr Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, while the vacant position is that of Vice President for administration.

“As UPND, we have a system guided by our party Constitution through the National Management Committee (NMC) which handles such matters. At no time did the NMC sit to deliberate on such matters.

“We urge our people to ignore the social media publication.”

Katuka however says the party’s doors are open to anyone willing join hands to free the country from the PF.

“As has been our tradition and seen even in the recent past, the UPND remains open to engage various stakeholders on many issues bordering on liberating our citizens from the Patriotic Front’s induced poverty.”

But when contacted PeP leader Sean Tembo could neither deny nor confirm the reports.
