We have inadequate equipment to cover all political parties – ZNBC

ZNBCZambia National Broadcasting Corporation -ZNBC- says inadequate equipment is hindering efforts to give coverage to all political parties.

ZNBC Director General Richard Mwanza says the corporation is operating under difficult conditions but is striving to cover all political parties.

And Mr Mwanza says ZNBC Management will soon engage all political parties to discuss coverage of their activities on both radio and television.

Speaking on Wednesday when he appeared before the Parliamentary committee on Information, Mr Mwanza appealed to political parties to restrain their cadres from attacking media personnel assigned to cover political assignment.

He also attributed the high levels of self censorship at the institution to external interference from politicians.

Mr. Mwanza told Committee Chairperson Kabinga Pande that every election period brings about changes in staff structure and loss of jobs.

He also said there is need to change the perception that ZNBC is a government mouthpiece which he said stems from the one party rule in the past.

Mr Mwanza further called for media reforms that would enable the media industry to operate in a professional manner.

And ZNBC Director of Programmes Rose Chumpuka said the corporation is positioning itself to adequately cover the election and is working closely with stakeholders to meet this objective.

And TV1 Assignments Editor Kennedy Bwalya said the ZNBC newsroom is giving coverage to the political parties and reserves the right to tell stories in an objective manner.

And ZNBC controller Television Grevazio Zulu said the guest list on the Sunday Interview programme is not biased towards the PF officials but is a platform that features a cross section of society.

Earlier Namwala MP Moono Lubezhi, Lukulu East MP Christopher Kalila and Chama South MP Effron Lungu complained that ZNBC is not giving equal coverage to opposition political parties.

And Mr. Pande urged ZNBC to maintain professionalism in its operations saying there should be no fear among employees of losing jobs regardless of which political party is in power.

  2. ZNBC Is controlled by Frank bwalya(has been given too much power by someone very untouchable), and Chishimba kambwili. Its common knowledge that ZNBC employees fear for their jobs.

  3. Lousy! ZNBC has no shame. When last did they cover any opposition fairly? there is no fairness to talk about and ZNBC should be dragged to court now! The DG is fooling opposition to buy more time and avoid being shamed in court.

  5. Zambia National Baffling Corporation (ZNBC) management is irresponsible for lack of a better term. The Director is a messy itself. You remember Mambilima told Zambians that ZNBC announced different figures from what ECZ gave them, and against the ECZ guidelines as employer in this contract. ZBBC did not attend the stakeholders meeting called by ECZ. So a strong resolve must be taken against the institution and the Director.

  7. How come MUVI PRIME and CBC which until recently depended only on adverts have always covered everyone. Deadnbc has shares in multichoice it collects tv levies it receives grants from government it also has a huge share of adverts, sothe issue of equipment is a stupid excuse from a stupid cadre. Grevazio also is some strange human being, how come lately only Nervous Mumba has appeared on your program. Do you invite guests or they request to be featured. Nervous appeared because he is pf in mmd.

  8. NONSENSE! Just say you do not have the WILL to do so because ECL JUST WONT LET YOU,Otherwise it is gross incompetence on your part to fail to come up with a way to cover ALL political parties. No one is asking you to feature a political party 24/7, but rather just a slice of time say 20 min and imagine you spread that for a whole week……..dadada! OWESOME CONTENT.

  11. What a fart!!! And Grevazio is telling lies, does he think we don’t note who features on his Sunday program? We do note with disappointments that one of them cantankerous and incorrigible pf nincompoops, Chishimba Kambwili, features too many a times, thereby rendering useless the chat show. It’s all crap excuses from these deadnbc-pf cadres, no iota of professionalism.

  13. These guys frequently go to western countries to study media but they come back to “toe” the line. And they continue to tax all people who own television sets as thought they are the only broadcasters. This country has a very strange population that allows itself to be c hated exploited. Why are we like this?
