Barrick the owners of Lumwana Mine in Solwezi say there are in discussions with the Zambian government in the hope of negotiating a mutually acceptable outcome that would allow the MineLumwana to remain in operation.
While no final decision to proceed with the suspension of the mine has been made yet, we are working to a decision deadline before the end of March.
It is in all stakeholders’ interests to ensure the mine continues to operate on a sustainable basis and we are working hard with government to achieve the best outcome for all parties.
The uncertainty that this situation has created for our workers while our discussions continue is understandable and unfortunate; we are also working with the Union and the Ministry of Labour so together we can reach an acceptable solution for all.
