In this video, Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs is seen telling the people of Mangango Constituency, Western Province to vote for the PF candidate in the forthcoming parliamentary by-election as doing so means voting for Jesus Christ.

Reverend Sumaili, who was drumming up support for Godwin Putu at a public rally also addressed by President Edgar Lungu on Saturday, told the gathering that “Jesus is in the boat (PF emblem)” and that voting for Putu is voting for the saviour of mankind.

But opposition UPPZ leader Charles Chanda, whose party is fielding a candidate in the by-election, has described Reverend Sumaili’s utterances as blasphemy.

And Canada-based lawyer and prominent blogger Elias Munshya has also weighed in on the minister’s remarks, describing them as sacrilegious and nonsensical.
