[Video] Zesco is not up for sale – Nkhuwa

Filed under: Breaking News,Business,Video Gallery |

Energy Minister Mathew Nkhuwa has denied reports that state-owned power utility company Zesco is set to be taken over by the Chinese, stating “it has not been discussed anywhere in the government circles.”

African Confidential had reported that one of the deals President Edgar Lungu had made with the Chinese was the takeover of Zesco similar to that of ZNBC (by Topstar) but Nkhuwa says such claims are erroneous.

“in my ministry, I am in charge of Zesco and there has been no correspondence and no one has come here to see us to buy Zesco.”

He says Zesco is a strategic company to the republic of Zambia and as such, government handles it carefully.

He says government led by President Lungu is a very responsible government and will not do things in a haphazard manner.
