Vespers’ Inquest: Expert explains negative samples

A public analyst has told the Coroner’s Court that he did not find any evidence of toxic substances on the samples that he examined, believed to have been gotten from slain UNZA student Vespers Shimuzhila’s body.

Sumbu Kowa has however disclosed that the method he used to examine the samples is not the most reliable, adding that his findings cannot rule out or confirm the cause of Vespers’ death.

Dr. Kowa says he examined three samples including a blood sample, stomach contents and vagina swab.
He has further revealed that in his report there were no toxic substances detected from the samples because he did not examine the lungs where the alleged suffocation occurred.

Dr. Kowa was giving evidence in the inquest hearing into the death of Vespers who was a fourth year student at the time of her death on October 5 last year following a protest over delayed meal allowances.
