Use diplomatic channels, Govt tells US Ambassador

The Zambian government has told the Diplomats and Cooperating partners to use diplomatic channels when airing their grievances.

The USA Ambassador to Zambia addressed the press in Lusaka where he announced the cancelation of a $50 million Health aid due to what he called systematic theft of medicines. He said apparently there has been no compressive response to address the issue by government.

The UA Ambassador who shed tears as he announced the decision saying the impact of the decision would be much describing the decision difficulty but necessary.

The event was widely covered by both local and international media.

The development forced the arrests of illegal drug dealers in the capital yesterday and today three Ministers held a joint media briefing to respond to the matter.

Addressing the press today Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mulambo Haimbe said the Diplomats and Cooperating Partners must “Use Diplomatic Channels”

“Use formal and diplomatic channels to air your grievances. We expect Diplomatic corp to adhere and respect the internal laws and refrain from interference as outlined in the Viena Convention. We reiterate that there are existing channels of communication” Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said.

The Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security said some culprits in the medicine theft had already been arrested and will be taken to court.

Jack Mwiimbu said there will be scared cows promising that government was committed to fight crime and corruption.

The Forensic Audit on theft of medicines done by Price Water House that began in October 2024 will be handed over to Government soon.
