Wrangles in the largest opposition party have deepened with UPND youths now giving the party’s national executive committee a 24-hour ultimatum to discipline party vice president Geoffrey Mwamba for verbally attacking party Secretary General Steven Katuka.

UPND youth Chairpersons from across the country addressed journalists at the party secretariat in Lusaka where they expressed outrage at the party vice president’s conduct.

UPND Deputy National youth chairperson Gilbert Liswaniso urged Mwamba to resign from the party if he thinks he is popular adding that the youths will not allow any individual to divide the party.

Liswaniso says the youths are concerned that while UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema is trying to unite the party, Mwamba whom the youths have termed as an idle vice president is busy causing problems in the party.

At the same media briefing UPND Northern Province Youth Chairperson Justin Mumbi has charged that Mwamba is not even popular in the province as he claims and does not have the capacity to divide the party.

Confusion in the UPND began when Kasama district chairperson Jairos Tembo, a junior member of the party suspended Northern provincial chairman, Nathan Chileshe Ilunga, on account that he is failing to grow the party in the province.
