UPND vows to go ahead with countrywide demonstrations

The opposition United Party For National Development –UPND- has vowed to go ahead with its planned national wide demonstrations over the removal of the subsidies.

UPND Deputy General, Secretary Kachinga Simusamba said the party will hold various rallies countrywide which will be addressed by party president Hakainde Hichilema, leaders of some civil society organizations and student’s union leaders.

Simusamba reiterated that the rallies will go ahead despite police refusal to grant them permit.

The UPND last week applied for a permit to hold national wide rallies over the removal of the subsidies.

But the Police has refused to grant them.

Simusamba however cited President Michael Sata’s directives to ministers to go flat out to explain this programme as the main reason it will also go ahead with its rallies.

“If ministers have been allowed to go and explain the removal of subsidy to the people, we will also go ahead with our planned demonstrations on the same despite police refusing to grant us the permits,” he said.

The Party has also called on its members to have a copy of the 2013 budget and the yellow book whenever Ministers reach out to them to explain on the removal of the subsidy.
