Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) says it is going ahead this Friday with its planned demonstration calling for the resignation of Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda.

The UPND has vowed to go ahead with its planned demonstration with or without Police permission. Its Deputy General Secretary Kuchunga Simusamba has said the party will not allow Police to continue infringing on their constitutional right each time they want to air out their grievances on national matters.

Simusamba said the planned demonstration which was slated for today has just moved to Friday due to the National mourning of late politician Ben Mwila which ends Thursday 6pm local time.

He says several times the Police has stopped the opposition to enjoy their constitutional rights of assemble to air their views on various national issues saying this will not be allowed to go on.

The UPND Deputy General Secretary revealed that the party has since written to Home Affairs Minister appealing for the Police’s action.
