UPND pick Kang’ombe for Sesheke

The United Party for National Development (UPND) have adopted 32-year-old Romeo Kang’ombe as their candidate for the forthcoming Sesheke Parliamentary by-elections slated for February 12, 2019.

Making the announcement at the party Secretariat this afternoon, UPND chairperson for elections Garry Nkombo said Kang’ombe’s adoption follows the unanimous decision by the other aspirants and grassroot to back the local businessman’s candidature.

Nkombo revealed that the candidate has vast political experience having been a runner-up to the late area lawmaker Frank Kufakwandi in the 2016 general elections.

Kang’ombe is married to Mainga Nkhowani and has four daughters.

Nkombo further revealed that the UPND will take part in all eight local government by-elections slated for February 12 and remains confident of scooping most of the vacant seats.

The vacant seats include,Anoya Zulu Ward of Chililabombwe District, Copperbelt, Munyama Ward of Kabwe District, Central Province, Mkomba Ward of Lundazi District and Chindwale Ward of Katete District both in Eastern Province, Chinkutila Ward of Chifunabuli District, Nkombwa Ward of Isoka District in Muchinga province and Sewe Mungole Ward of Chavuma District of North western Province.

The By-election in Sesheke has been necessitated by the death of Frank Kufakwandi on November 12, 2018 while the vacancies in Anoya Zulu, Munyama, Mkomba, Chindwale, Chinkutila, Nkombwa and Sewe Mungole wards are as a result of resignations and deaths of councillors.
