News reaching Zambian Eye is that UPND Member of Parliament for Livingstone Hon Howard Sikwela has resigned after having had a long meeting at Amadilo in Livingstone with the PF executive and District Commissioner.

In the last week of December Zambian eye had reported on how President Michael Sata has been courting Rev. Sikwela  for a possible appointment into foreign services.  Rev. Sikwela fears that if he re-contested the seat on PF ticket he may not retain it so he opted to go for the Foreign Service job.

Earlier during the year the MP had been linked to another appointment as Minister but never materialized. Close associates to Rev. Sikwela warned him against taking the risk which he would later regret for the rest of his life.

Hakainde Hichilema is said to be emotionally uncompromising with any moves to work or associate with the PF government he says is dictatorial and has no capacity to governor. In no uncertain terms UPND insiders say he has threatened to throw out any MP immediately they accept to serve in President Sata’s government.

“He says would do anything within his means to fight and make sure such an MP does not retain the seat after being thrown out,” explained a UPND official.

Some of the MPs approached earlier this year but declined the offers were wife of late Anderson Mazoka, Mutinta who is MP for Pemba constituency and her Monze central counterpart, Jack Mwimbu.

The PF is keen to win a seat in the UPND stronghold to prove a point and make a breakthrough in what is perceived to be a way gaining entry to the opposition party. It has been difficult for PF to entice UPND MPs to get jobs in President Sata’s government.

President Sata has managed to penetrate MMD and has so far appointed 10 MPs to deputy ministerial position and even managed to retain one seat after one MP was expelled for serving in PF government.

PF is considering fielding the Chief Registrar of Societies Clement Andeleki for the Livingstone seat once Rev. Sikwela resigned. Andeleki has been frequenting Livingstone lately in what has been described as preparatory visits. This confirms the fear many had in the Chief registra as a political operative disguised as Chief Registra.
