UNZA lecturers down tools

Lecturers at the University of Zambia have boycotted work over unpaid February salaries.

University of Zambia lecturers and Researchers Union (UNZALARU) has directed its members to not work until government pays them their dues.

Union General Secretary Kelvin Mambwe has told Diamond News that it is perturbing how government is not paying workers when they are collecting a lot of revenue through the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

Sources within the University’s management have hinted that salaries may reflect this Friday .

But Mambwe has stated that Friday will be too long.

A check by the Diamond News crew at the University found classes halted with students moving about.

Mambwe says only those with money will be found teaching while those who haven’t been paid will be all about their business.

Meanwhile, lecturers at the Copperbelt University have reportedly suspended classes due to nonpayment of February salaries.
