UNZA congratulates Prof. Nalubamba on his coronation as senior chief of the Ila people

The University of Zambia (UNZA) sends its warmest congratulations to the Dean in the School of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. King Shimumbo Nalubamba on his successful coronation as the new Senior Chief Nalubamba of the Ila people of Namwala District in Southern Province.

Prof. Nalubamba ascended to the thrown following the demise of his father the Late Senior Chief Bright Nalubamba who passed away on the 6th of June 2019.

Meanwhile, UNZA Vice Chancellor, Prof. Luke Evuta Mumba has commended the Ila people of Namwala District for the peaceful transition following the demise of the previous Chief, Bright Nalubamba whose leadership style he described as remarkable. “On behalf of The Council, Senate, Management, Staff and Students of UNZA, I would like to commend the Ila people of Namwala District for the smooth and peaceful transition. Further UNZA congratulates Prof. Nalubamba for ascending to the throne. We wish him success and God’s grace and guidance as he leads his people” Prof. Mumba says.

He adds that, “UNZA is confident that Prof. Nalubamba is equal to the task given his qualifications, exposure and the mentorship he received from the late Senior Chief.”

Prof. Mumba further states that the UNZA community is proud of Senior Chief. Prof. Nalubamba for the achievement and UNZA stands ready to support him in his new task.

Prof. Mumba has however requested the new Senior Chief to continue serving UNZA as an academic as his services are still required. He has appealed to the Mbeza Royal Establishment to permit Senior Chief. Prof. Nalubamba to continue in his current role at UNZA of developing human capital in Veterinary Medicine for the development of Zambia, Africa and the world.

The coronation ceremony of the new Senior Chief of the Ila people of Namwala District took place yesterday, 13th October, 2019 at the Mbeza Royal establishment.

Prof. Nalubamba was crowned Senior Chief following the demise of his Father the Late Senior Chief Bright Nalubamba in June 2019.

This is according to a statement issued by UNZA Spokesperson Brenda Bukowa.
