Minister also gets K450, 000 compensation

The UPND Administration has continued to reward it’s members who suffered arrests and trauma while in opposition.

The latest beneficiary after the treason co-accused compensated Victims and many others is Lawyer Frank Tayali who is Transport and Logistics Minister.

The Attorney General has agreed to compensate Tayali with K450,000 for the trauma he experienced after police officers pointed a gun at him in 2020.

Diamond Television reports that in a consent judgment signed by ZS Legal Practitioners and the Attorney General, it has been agreed that the state will also cover plaintiff’s costs, totaling K80,000.

Tayali had filed a lawsuit against the state before the Lusaka High Court, seeking compensation for the ordeal he endured when he accompanied UPND president Hakainde Hichilema to the Police. During the fracas, a State Prosecutor was accidentally shot dead.

Hichilema, now the President of Zambia was summoned by Police for questioning at Police Service headquarters in Lusaka.

The opposition has questioned the decisions made by the State to compensate a number of its Supporters some where their cases ended via a nolle prosequi.

The Co-accused to Hichilema in the treason case were each given K6.4 million as compensation for the anguish suffered during the 127 days in dentation.

Others compensated include the wife to Chief Mukuni and her four co-accused who were each given K500, 000 as compensation for wrong imprisonment.
