Time to get to the root cause of Barotseland problems

It’s time to get down to the root cause of the Barotseland Agreement issue. Time… is not on our side.

We are now dealing with the offshoots of the problem, lets deal with the problem. Innocent people, that have over time been pushing for its implementation are caught up with each and every successive Zambian government. It’s about time to face and resolve it.

He told a well attended campaign rally in Mongu, Western Province. Sata said the Barotseland Agreement of 1964 was binding as it was duly signed by the then Prime Minister of Zambia Kenneth Kaunda, the Litunga and the British Empire.

He also promised that within 90 days of forming government, he will reconstruct the dilapidated roads in the province like the Limulunga, Kalabo road. He also pledged to build a University in the Province because there are few learning facilities in the area.

Now the same PF government is arresting Barotse Activists based on Chapter 7, section 43 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia, which says: “A person is guilty of treason and shall be liable to suffer death who : (a) Prepares or endeavours to overthrow by unlawful means the Government as by law established; or (c) Prepares or endeavours to procure by force the setting up of an independent state in any part of Zambia or the secession of any part of Zambia from the Republic…”.

Dr. Kaunda must be held accountable, for signing such a problematic agreement that has caused our country so much pain. Before KK passes on, he MUST resolve this issue. Of course, the PF are a lying government and there are so many lies that they have reneged on, including the Barotseland Agreement. I now understand that the 10 year period that the PF was in opposition knew nothing about running a government, made promises that were fundamentally flawed and logically impotent, now reality has caught up with them. Lies never pay.
