Those advancing tribal hate will be jailed for a long time – HH

President Hakainde Hichilema (HH) has warned that his government will change laws to ensure those advancing tribal hate gets long term jail sentence.

Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, 5th June 2024, President Hichilema said the tribal hate being advanced by some opposition political party leaders could throw the country into tribal war.

President Hichilema said he will not allow under his watch allow the country go through what happened in Rwanda.

He said it was unfortunate that Zambians are not seeing the danger of being advanced by some politicians.

President Hichilema disclosed that yesterday his cabinet agreed to amend the law and provide for stiff rules and punishment against those advancing tribal hatred.

He explained that when Parliament opens the bills will be tabled and urged members of the House to support the bills.

President Hichilema said Citizens have been living together as one even getting married without regarding what tribe one is but that politicians were trying to bring division and hatred.

The head of state comments comes following the arrest of four politicians and Civic Right Activist who were charged of hate speech and inciting tribe war.

The opposition politicians however denies the charge and have since been taken to court to be tried against the charge.
