This Week: The New Africa

So many words have been used to describe Africa in recent years. Others have described Africa as a promising continent while others have said 21st century is for Africa.
At the just ended US-Africa Summit, US President Obama described Africa as an extraordinary continent. He pointed that some of the fastest-growing economies in the world were in Africa. He also said that Africa was youngest and fastest-growing continent, with young people that were full of dreams and ambition.
It has now become clear that the world has now recognized that Africa is a future continent. This is the reason why a number of developed countries were in a hurry to partner with Africa.
According to Aljazeera.com the new battle for Africa does not deploy strong-arm tactics, it was a soft power game economic and humanitarian aid, interest-free loans, preferential trade agreements and investments in infrastructure are currency across a continent that is, for the world’s established and emerging powers, seemingly up for grabs. Aljazeera states that India, Brazil and Russia were all invested in Africa’s present and future, and old imperial powers like France were fixing to retain their loosening grip on the riches of former colonies.
The recent held US-Africa Summit reminded African Leaders that the world was eyeing its riches. The summit also reminded African Leaders that US was also interested in working with Africa. Therefore, it was encouraging to see African leaders supporting the need for Africa to unite economically. Speaking on behalf of people of East Africa at the summit, Presidents Kagame, Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda said the African dream was a reality and invited the United States and other world Leaders to partner with the continent on its transformational journey.

While Zambian Vice President Dr. Guy Scott told the US– Africa Leaders summit that Zambia in partnership with other African other countries, had made strides in developing strategies for the economic integration of the continent. Dr. Scot said that if Africa was to move forward as a continent and achieve prosperity, it was imperative that the continent begun to trade more with itself. So he called upon the United States of America to work together and support African regional integration initiatives.
Egypt stated in its national statement at the US- Africa Leaders summit that Egypt took pride in Africa’s inspirational liberation struggle, as well as in its contribution thereto. The Egyptian government said that it continued to pursue the common objectives of all African countries through supporting African mechanisms, in implementation of the principle of African Solutions to African Problems.
So what is the New Africa? Recently US President Barrack Obama Said: “I stand before you as the president of the United States, a proud American. I also stand before you as the son of a man from Africa. The blood of Africa runs through our family, so for us, the bonds between our countries, our continents are deeply personal. So I propose a toast for the New Africa. The Africa that is rising and so full of promise. To our shared task to keep on working for the peace and prosperity and justice that all our people seek, that all our people so richly deserve.”
President Obama’s speech echoed the poem written by Mr. Syany Slokani entitled ‘The African dream’ Slokan wrote: I have a dream that one day, there won’t be dictators in Africa and African governments and polices will be able to respect human rights. There won’t need for African to risk their live to migrant in Europe, America and some ended up in detention centres in cross Europe, America, and Australian and laboured as illegal immigrants. African politicians will be able to protect their people and give better condition of live for African people; there won’t be slums cross all Africa.
African will be able to be proud to be African and not feel embarrassed or tried to obtain Western passport to feel free. African will give values of their local languages and their identities also we’ll live in peace and mutual respect among tribes; it won’t be tribes issues anymore that always create civil war among us.
Our Education system won’t be based in European model anymore but it will be African system based in African values. Africa should be build by the African with cooperation with others. But not by European, American or Chinese
Therefore, the new Africa should focus on making the lives of African people better and better. The new Africa should not be based on promises of world but it should be based on ensuring that service delivery key to national development.
