So I hear social media has been bullying musician Wezi over her dark complexion. I am not surprised because I have also seen such comments below some of my pictures.
Now I want to say something about this issue because sometimes people don’t realise that they have low self-esteem.
In the world, we have various races. Most distinct is whites and blacks.
Apart from Zambia and a few selected countries, people believe the darker the berry the sweeter the juice. In the USA, Jamaica and other countries, you are an authentic negro if you are dark. In fact whites themselves will prefer someone more dark than light skinned.
If you don’t know colleagues, whites go and sun bath on the beach to get a skin tan. In winter, they even pay to go to the solarium.
Bob Marley would put shoe polish in his hair for it to look dark because he wanted to look more African. I have an African American friend who once told me that in Zambia, we still haven’t fought the slave mentality because we want to resemble the master.
Unfortunately for the master, no matter how light your skin is, he will never consider you white. If Meghan Markle or even Obama with one white parent are considered black who are you to play white?
All those blacks that laugh at other blacks for being dark are people with a lost identity and low self esteem.
Wezi can choose to bleach her skin but if she enters South Africa, people like Julius Malema will never understand her? People in the USA would simply not understand that. Skin bleaching is very common in Zambia and Congo only!
Having studied in a racially diverse university, what I came to learn is that in Zambia, the levels of self esteem are on the low side. People from Angola, Mozambique, Cameroon, etc will keep natural but Zambians eish?
Why do you crave to be light when negros are dark? Whites don’t even differentiate based on lightness of skin. In Jamaica the darker the better.
In India the same slave colonial mentality has even created a cast system. Lighter people consider themselves more superior than the darker ones. But when we look at them from Zambia, we can’t differentiate because they are all Indian to us.
I think a lot of our people need therapy. Be proud of who you are. We are not bleaching our skins anytime soon! Spend time trying to construct a sensible livelihood than being a wannabe.
Wezi is beautiful and very natural. The kind of girl real men would want. Alice Musukwa also has a dark complexion and she is a very beautiful model!
She is married to a white person who I think doesn’t have a problem with that! Now you are a negro and laughing at a fellow negro? Shame!!!!!
We are dark and still got the most beautiful women and men so chill.
As a man, I will never entertain people abusing our sisters based on their African authenticity!
