The Zambia Union of Tanker Drivers and Allied Workers has vowed to block any foreign fuel tankers from offloading fuel in Zambia if government does not help them to load the commodity in other countries such as Tanzania and Mozambique.

The drivers who this morning held a peaceful protest along Buyantashi road explained that for over a month now, they have not been operating because they are denied access to loading fuel in both Tanzania and Mozambique while their foreigner counterparts are allowed to.

They have also accused local oil marketing companies who are mainly foreign nationals of giving business to their fellow foreign nationals at the expense of Zambian businesses.

The aggrieved tanker drivers have further explained that most of them have lost employment because tanker owners have parked the vessels in their yards due to lack of business.

They have further explained that the policy that allows 50 percent of Zambian owned tankers and 50 percent of foreign owned tankers to bring in fuel is not working as only foreigner tankers are operating.

And a check by the Phoenix News crew in most fuel depots revealed that about 95 percent of the tankers waiting to offload the fuel are foreign owned companies. -PHOENIX NEWS
