Swimmers at ZASU League Gala

Hundreds of Lusaka residents thronged the “90 days Legacy Swimming Pool” at the Olympic Youth Development Centre in Lusaka to watch swimmers who were participating in the two-day Zambia Amateur Swimming Union (ZASU) 3rd League Gala.

The gala that splashed off Saturday morning, 23rd January, 2016 saw a couple of national records broken and a lot of improvement and promise from swimmers in their execution of swimming skills.

Zambia Amateur Swimming Union (ZASU) President David Thompson said that he was impressed with the swimmers performance, both boys and girls, especially the young swimmers under the age of 12 years.

Thomson added that he is happy with the increased number of both clubs and swimmers that participated in the event. Over 230 athletes took part in the two-day ZASU 3rd League Gala.

“The 3rd League Gala proves that the swimmers are really improving. Firstly we had a record turnout, with more than 230 swimmers taking part and also personal best timesrecorded. I think we broke almost more than 15 national records and this shows that swimmers times are improving at every gala” he said.

Meanwhile, Thomson has disclosed that ZASU will have the 4th and final event of the national league, which will take place in Ndola in three weeks’ time.

Baobab Barracuds, Lusaka Sharks, Simba Seals, Lechwe Electric Eels, AIS Torpedoes, ISL Kapentas, Lusaka Amateur Swimming Club, Mufulira Swimming Club, Musikili Swimming Club and Trident Tigers were among the clubs that participated in the just ended two day Gala.
