Street vendors removed from CBD

The  Livingstone City Council in collaboration with Security Wings
this morning removed street vendors from the Central Business District (CBD).

Livingstone City Council Deputy Director of Public Health Gregory Banda said the local authority and other stakeholders have been sensitizing the street vendors on the need to move to the Livingstone City Market which is a designated trading place.

Banda said the market provides good sanitation for the traders adding that there is need to enhance measures so that the city does not record any case of Cholera which has been recorded in some parts of the country.

He said this in an interview with Zambezi FM news during the cleaning exercise .

However, about 2 weeks ago President Hakainde Hichilema directed the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Garry Nkombo not to remove street vendors from undesignated trading places until further consultations are held.
