Stop the Zambian Watchdog, orders Masebo

A Zambian government  Minister has called for the ban of a News online publication – Zambian Watchdog which is perceived to be critical of government.
Sylvia Masebo the Minister of Tourism and Arts has warned that negative publicity by The Zambian Watchdog  has the possibility of affecting the Zambia’s hosting of the UNWTO General Assembly scheduled for August 2013.
She has since instructed the Zambia Information Communication and Technology Authority (ZICTA) to revoke the law that allows the Zambian Watchdog to operate as an On-line publication.

Ms Masebo who is in Livingstone, the Zambian Tourism capital made the announcement during a Tourism Investment Forum held at Chrismar hotel. She said the Online publication has being defaming some people a situation she says may threaten the sucess of the UNWTO General Assembly to be co-hosted by Zambia and Zimbabwe.

There has been some concerns by the new government in Zambia on the operations of the emerging online news publication. President Michael Sata had called for regulation of the online news media and he had instructed the Justice Ministry to come up with a mechnism of controling the online media.
