Sport in Action dominate Teulings Girls Basketball League

basketballSport in Action (SIA) Basketball team dominated the under-15 girls Teulings Youth Sport Challenge which took place at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) on the 7th May, 2016 during the second league games.

The team beat Mapoloto Basketball Team 26 – 14.

Team Captain Abigail Phiri, expressed happiness that her team has continued to perform better by scoring more baskets in every game.

She says the commitment, dedication and hard work the team has been putting in to prepare and participate in the Teulings Youth league games at the Centre have contributed to being on top.

Phiri further said the trainings and hard work of the players will make the team outclass other teams in the forthcoming games.

And Mapoloto Basketball player Naomi Mumba attributed the 26-14 baskets loss to lack of defense by her teammates.

Mumba described the weekend league games as fair stating that they will step up their defense to reduce on their opponents’ scores.

She encouraged her fellow players not to despair but continue with the trainings in preparation for the next games.

In addition, Mumba applauded Teulings and OYDC for the Youth league which she says is developing the sport careers for athletes from OYDC surrounding communities and those from other areas that participate in the league.

In under-13 boys category Sport in Action (SIA) lost 10-12 to Wild dogs.

Other teams that played include Batoka, Matero Magic and Hurricanes.

Meanwhile, during the league Buffaloes beat Leopards 10-8 while Breath of Heaven beat Mapoloto 9-8.

Breathe of Heaven Basketball Coordinator Michael Devine says the Centre is a better place for talent identification.

He says the OYDC has in the last six years continued to empower the youth with different sport skills by participating in Youth league games.

He says the girls performed according to his expectation during the second league games.

The Teulings Basketball Youth Challenge games played at the weekend was the second league tournament hosted this year.
