Sixteen die during Christmas holiday

Sixteen people have died while 71 are nursing serious injuries following the 281 road traffic accidents recorded during this year’s Christmas holiday across the country.

According to the Zambia Police 95 persons were slightly injured and 158 were recorded as damage only road traffic accidents.

And a total amount of 4 Hundred 87 Thousand 3 hundred and 35 kwacha was raised as admission of guilt out of 931 traffic offences during the period under review.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga however noted a reduction in the number of people who were killed in road accidents this year compared to the same period in 2022 were 23 died out of 197 accidents recorded that time.

Hamoonga says Lusaka Province topped the list with 127 accidents seconded by Copperbelt Province with 27, Southern 22 while Central and Eastern recorded 19 accidents each and the least is Northern with 9 accidents.

He has since implored motorists to continue embracing safe driving practices and be vigilant on the roads.
