Sesheke MP Kufakwandi dies

Frank Kufakwandi, the UPND member of parliament for Sesheke Constituency has died.

Kufakwandi died in a Johannesburg hospital early this morning.

This is the second time in three months that the opposition party has lost a lawmaker from Western Province. Mangango MP Naluwa Mwene tragically died in a road accident in August.

Below is a statement issued by the Zambian High Commission in Pretoria confirming Kufakwandi’s demise.


Pretoria-Monday 12th November 2018

Sesheke Member of Parliament, Hon. Frank Kufakwandi has died in South Africa after an illness.

Government evacuated Hon. Kufwakwandi last month and he has been receiving specialist treatment at Arwyp Medical Centre in Johannesburg.

Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa His Excellency Emmanuel Mwamba disclosed that Hon. Kufwakwandi died in the early hours of Monday.

Mr. Mwamba said his wife Mrs. Masiliso Kufwakwandi was at the bedside.

He said Hon. Kufwakwandi was among Zambian patients evacuated by government to receive specialised treatment in South Africa.

Mr. Mwamba said Hon. Kufwakwandi had been treated for a cardiac condition.

He said he had visited Hon. Kufwakwandi several times at the Hospital and was saddened by his passing as government had hoped that he would overcome his illness.

He said details regarding the repatriation of the body will be communicated later.

Hon. Kufwakwandi was the member of parliament for Sesheke on the Opposition ticket, the United Party for National Development (UPND).
