The government has announced that schools will remain closed until Monday August 16, 2021 when they are expected to re-open.

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga however says this is subject to how the Covid 19 will have evolved and inspections for certification by the multi sectoral team.

He says GCE and Grade 9 external examinations will proceed and be administered as scheduled on Monday July 19, 2021.

Speaking during an update on the Covid-19 measures, Malupenga further said Universities, Colleges and other tertiary institutions will continue to offer online lessons only.

He said bars and taverns will continue to operate only on take away basis for the next 21 days while casinos will remain closed.

Malupenga also said restaurants will continue to operate on take away basis and churches will conduct 2 meetings per week for 1-hour.

He said gymnastics also remain closed except for outdoor activities while funerals should be limited to 50 mourners only.

And Malupenga said President Edgar Lungu is concerned with sentiments by the Bar owners because measures are not meant to punish anyone but to save lives.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Technical Services Kennedy Malama said the COVID situation in the country has not changed for the better and the rate of infections in communities remains high. -Znbc
