Saved from the gallows by age, after killing Lungu

The Lusaka High Court has ruled that the Juvenile who killed 20 year-old Sebastian Lungu at the JCS Chinese market be sent to Katombora Reformatory Center for counseling and rehabilitation.

It is the state’s case that on April 6 2019, the offender who was below the legal age of majority at the time of committing the crime, stabbed Lungu on the neck after a misunderstanding following a drinking spree.

On the age of the offender, High Court Judge Ennesie Banda Bobo pointed out that she has concluded that the offender is 18 years old and committed the crime when he was 17 years old.

Judge Bobo has also ordered that a report of counselling should be sent to Social Welfare every after six months and the Juvenile offender should be enrolled in school.

As part of the sentence, the Juvenile offender will spend four years at Katombora Reformatory Center.

However, when a local news publication contacted the mother of the deceased, she could not comment on the judgment saying no court outcome can bring back her son.
