Lift sanctions on Zimbabwe, Sata tells International Community

President Michael Sata has asked the International Community to lift sanctions on Zimbabwe.

President Sata  in a statement through Acting President Alexander Chikwanda said that the sanctions on Zimbabwe has outlived its usefulness.

The Zambian leader said sanctions on the Southern African country should be lifted in the common interest of humanity and fellowship.  He noted that the people of Zimbabwe should be allowed unfitted opportunity to prosper and not be isolated. He has since called for unity in that country after the people voted in the July 31, 2013 general elections.

He said the people need to be united so that they can forge ahead in development .The President has since congratulated Robert Mugabe over his re-election.

President Mugabe was re elected President of Zimbabwe in the poll that saw him win with 61 percent against his close rival Morgan Tsavangarai of the opposition MDC who polled 34 percent in a disputed election.
